User Interface Design

Puget Sound Education Services District
user interface/web design and execution projects
January- March 2001

I have worked closely with the Director of Communications at the Puget Sound Education Services to design and develop these web site.

Process

Our goal was to build a portal for the Prevention Center and include their services. Since PC was a part of PSESD we did not want to create a brand new web site and the challenge was to work within the same design to implement this new site. Another criterion was the diverse demographics of user of this site, dictating the simple design using tables. The majority of our users have access to 800x600 resolution monitors or less in Mac or PC environments. Our final version was tested in Netscape and Internet Explorer. I have focused on simplicity and clarity of information and let the form follow the function.

Process

I worked closely with the Directors of Communication Department and the Director of the Puget Sound Education Television to implement their departmental goals for the present and future of this site. PSETV is scheduled to launch the end of April 2001. I was given 3 weeks to design implement and test this project. Through my research, I found that the use of vibrant colors a refreshing choice and an appropriate theme for my user interface structure. Throughout the site structure I used typographical hierarchy to emphasize important headlines. The site progress was swift and the need to expand the site from a quick information guide to 24x7 schedule necessitated the design and implementation of a color-coded system. I used colors to organize the months of the year into weeks with links to their respective pages providing the detailed and necessary information for viewers. The result may be at the following address for the Puget Sound Education TV http://www.psetv.org
